When asked whether federal authorities were responsible for taking e-Bullion's accounts offline, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Aveis of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California said he was unable to discuss the case, as it was an "ongoing investigation." Aveis said he did not known when more information about the case might become publicly available. Authorities arrested Fayed last week and charged him with operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. He is also a suspect in the death of his wife, Pamela Fayed. The Fayeds co-owned e-Bullion and several associated gold-trading companies, but were in the process of getting a divorce when Pamela Fayed was murdered in a Los Angeles parking garage on July 28. A court document posted on Scribd outlines the case against Fayed, which allegedly involves the transfer of $20 million in proceeds from a "Ponzi scheme": Ian Lamont08.08.2008
